The key for positive adaptation to the stresses of athletic training, work, and life is balance. We each have a given amount of physical and mental energy to expend to the tasks we choose to fill our day. It is no mystery to coaches and physiologists that training gains occur when the body is pushed beyond its normal limits, then allowed a period of time to rejuvenate and adapt, becoming stronger and ready to take on increasing loads. However, too much or too little stress, or not enough recovery can leave a person feeling flat, unmotivated, and often times overwhelmed.
A systematic approach to balancing the key elements of life must occur in order for maximal adaptation to take place.
